In 2018, the City of Gold Coast awarded Environmental Earth Sciences International (EESI) the contract to construct a comprehensive landfill gas monitoring network across their sites. The project involved the installation of 53 soil gas bores, 3 groundwater bores, and 4 dual-purpose monitoring bores, followed by a standalone monitoring event of 57 gas bores. EESI then installed 6 additional gas bores, completing all projects in 2018.
With over 30 years of experience and a track record of providing cost-effective, scientifically sound solutions to local governments, councils, and developers, EESI was the perfect choice for the City of Gold Coast. The monitoring network enabled the Council to better monitor and manage landfill gas and provided a risk profile for any potential development near existing landfill sites.
To ensure a comprehensive solution, EESI undertook a dilapidation survey of infrastructure surrounding the proposed drill locations. This allowed them to assess the potential impact of the drilling on existing infrastructure and minimise any potential damage.
EESI CEO, Philip Mulvey, expressed his pride in the Brisbane team for delivering solutions that are financially viable and scientifically sound. He believes that the team’s existing knowledge of the sites, solution’s value for money, and the quality of their submission contributed to the win. Mulvey also noted that effective environmental due diligence results in the best strategies for managing potential risks.
This project is an example of how EESI can offer turnkey, integrated solutions to their clients. By monitoring the sites and assessing the surrounding infrastructure, EESI provides a complete solution optimised to suit the City of Gold Coast’s requirements. The successful completion of this project has made the City of Gold Coast a benchmark for landfill gas monitoring.
